“Focus on the process, not the results.” I have heard this saying countless times growing up playing sports. It was a way to draw our attention back to what mattered – what was happening right now. These first few weeks of ministry God has really been reminding me to focus on the process, not the results.
As I sat with the kids, I wondered what our purpose was. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love playing with and loving on the kids but I didn’t understand the part I was playing. I felt like I should be doing more because I was not seeing any kind of tangible results. Then I was tasked with doing a devotional on Mark 4:26-29 which says:
“And he said, ‘The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.’”
God was really highlighting the process of growth; it starts with planting the seeds, then the growth comes, and finally the harvest of the fruit. It really hit me that God has me here to plant the seeds of love, hope, and faith in the kids. In the end, it is not my job to grow them. I simply need to be faithful in planting the seeds where God has placed me. He will produce the results in their time.
